New Member Experience

The Phi Program – This eight-week new member program enhances the Phi Mu Experience by helping new members transition into Fraternity membership.  The online component includes an orientation, expectations of membership and journal prompts which help our new members begin their lifetime involvement in Phi Mu.  The online modules in partnership with Phi meetings provide new members with the framework for personal, academic, social and professional growth.  

 

~~~~~ Alpha Rho New Member Experience ~~~~~

After bid day our new members are introduced to their Membership Director, along with Phi Assistants, who help to mentor and help transition the new members into the chapter. During this period, new members go through a few weeks where they receive nothing but love from our active members. We call these our Love Weeks. During these weeks the new members receive letters, hang out with an active members, and begin to meet new people where they are showered with gifts and tons of love!

 

During these love weeks the new members have a Phi Retreat where they spend time with their pledge class doing arts and crafts, getting to know one another better, and eating all sorts of yummy food. 

 

A few short weeks after the Phi Retreat, our entire chapter attends our bi-annual Sisterhood Retreat. We usually hold this retreat before our new members get initiated! It is a great time to spend time with your sisters. We do crafts, take a ton of pictures, and just have fun with one another. In previous years we have tie-dyed tanks, painted pumpkins, watched Breakfast at Tiffany's, done Zumba, and even had a pajama & breakfast themed retreat!

 

At the end of the Love Weeks, each new member gets a Big Sister. Big sisters become best friends with their little sister and help to guide them into becoming the best woman and Phi Mu she can be. The big sisters are revealed with a big themed Big/Little Reveal. We have so much fun with these reveals. Previous reveal themes have included pajamas, fiesta, puzzle pieces, and more!

 

In the Spring semester we hold our annual formal, Pink Carnation. Our new members get presented by their Big Sis. The new member's big sis then presents them with a pink carnation and custom made sash. This is such a fun time for our new members and our actives. We always enjoy this event, especially the big sisters who get to present their new little sisters.
